Technique Tip: Knee Cross Climb

This intermediate level split silks climb offers a unique challenge with a few intricate details, and I’m eager to guide you through them. Watch the video below for a step-by-step breakdown and tips to help you refine your technique! 🎥✨

THE SET-UP

  • Start by inverting with split silks, as you would for a tuck.

  • Extend your left leg upward and flex your foot behind the right pole.

  • Bend your right knee towards your chest, between the silks.

  • Thread your right foot around the outside of the left pole, then pass it through the center, creating an X behind your knee.

  • Squeeze your right heel to your bum getting the silk directly behind your knee. Reach up one hand at a time.

  • To help you sit up, drive your top leg down using it as a lever.

  • Extend your hooked knee and the wrap will release. You can repeat on the same side or alternate as you ascend.

✔ Key Detail: Pay attention to your leg pathway. Your left foot flexes and stays behind the right pole and your right knee bends toward your chest. The right foot circles around the right side and threads through the middle. Common Mistakes:

  • Make sure your knee threads correctly between the silks. If your right leg begins from the outside and threads through, you’ll end up with a loop around your thigh. Make sure the knee comes between the silks toward your chest to avoid this.

  • When threading your foot around, aim to get the silk in your 'knee tip' and really squeeze your heel to your bum, ensuring the silk stays snug behind your knee pit to prevent sliding.

Finally, don’t forget to practice on your non-dominant side! It may feel awkward, but it’s key for balance in your training.
